Acoustic regulation

Acoustic regulation is an exercise that is primarily about calculating how much absorption you need. Next, you have to think about what will aesthetically fit into the room in question.

We always recommend that you consider whether it is possible to install acoustic panels in the ceiling as a first step. This is an easy way to get many m2 of acoustic material into the room in a completely invisible way and at the same time it is more affordable. Step two is to look at the walls. Is it possible to install acoustic material here? If so, which product would look good. And step three is where we recommend that you consider whether there is a need for shielding in the room. This mainly applies to businesses. In that case, we recommend acoustically regulating screen walls and table screens or glass solutions.

Below you will find several different solutions, all of which offer acoustic regulation. You can read more by clicking further.

A brief talk about acoustic regulations

    Acoustic attenuation in private homes

An awful lot of people live in modern houses with deliciously clean kitchens/living rooms. These houses have pitched ceilings, plaster ceilings and tiles - and the furnishings are fashionably frugal. Collectively, the mentioned elements give a reverberation that can make it difficult to have a cozy and intimate conversation with your family - and especially your children. But something can be done about it, also something that you, as a design-oriented family, will appreciate!

The children seem like a nuisance, and the room becomes a place you escape from if you are on the phone or if you are tired in the head. What was supposed to be the nerve and heart of the house has turned out to be the red-hot hub of the house. Having guests over for dinner, enjoying a nice glass of wine, is not quite as cozy as you imagined. Instead of shouting at each other, you could have sat down calm and easy listening to eachother - then the fun would have been top notch. But when the sound is bad - you shout. Our bodies automatically turn up the sound level and especially children do not realize that they are shouting and screaming.

If the room had been furnished completely differently, the sound would probably not be a problem. But very few people want to replace the simple and stylish furniture with lots and lots of soft and non-leather covered furniture, carpets and curtains. This is not the way people wish to live either in terms of style or in relation to an easy life where e.g cleaning must be simple and easy.

To make up for the large rooms, the high ceilings height, the sparse furnishings and hard building materials, you have to introduce a certain amount of soft materials. Doing this, you can remove the long reverberation. Acoustic regulation can, in addition to the introduction of extra interior, be done with acoustic materials where every square meter of acoustic material is as absorbent as possible. Then you can make do with fewer square meters than if you added textiles etc. to the room.
As a general rule a room with a normal ceiling height, we talk about the introduction of acoustic material at the equivalent of approx. 25% of the floor area in the room. If there is more than 3 meters to the ceiling, we are instead talking about what corresponds to at least 30% of the floor area. But both percentages naturally depend on how the sound is in the room. Use our calculator or contact us for help.

    Acoustic ceiling or wall?

Acoustic materials can e.g be colorful acoustic ceilings or panels and pictures on the walls. Visually, the solution can create a play of color in the room or be so discreet that you don't even notice it. But you will definitely notice the difference in the sound quality.

One of the trendiest acoustic solutions right now is the installation of wooden slats. The slats are mounted at intervals of a few centimeters, and behind each of them is an acoustic cloth. For the greatest possible acoustic attenuation, the sound has access to mineral wool on the back of the acoustic cloth. Dansk Acoustics is happy to help design and calculate solutions in order to achieve the desired attenuation.
